There is no question that the increased diversity in our city is adding a great value to our schools, businesses, and community. In an effort to better serve and to understand the issues affecting the city, we need working Commissions that are dedicated to understanding and explaining how the City of Lafayette will move forward as our demographics are changing.

About the Human Relations Commission

The City of Lafayette Human Relations Commission was created in 1968, and consists of nine (9) citizens appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council. The Commission's main objectives are to end prejudice, intolerance, bigotry, and discrimination in the City of Lafayette, to encourage respect and understanding of all individuals and groups, and to investigate complaints of discrimination in the City of Lafayette. The Commission is concerned with any discrimination based on race, sex, religion, color, physical or mental handicap, familial status, national origin, or sexual orientation, and is available to investigate discriminatory acts in the areas of employment, access to public accommodations, and the purchase or rental of housing.

Our Printable Brochure

The Commission produces a brochure for citizens to review in order to help them better understand the signs of wrongful discrimination, and to help them understand if they have been discriminated against. The brochure can be downloaded by clicking on the link below or picked up at a number of locations throughout the Lafayette Community.

If You Think You Have Been Discriminated Against
